The second solo release from one of Finland’s most prominent extreme metal frontmen is out Thursday, September 24, 2026 via Stormbound Records.

Mathias Lillmåns has spent three decades as one of extreme metal’s recognizable voices in bands like Finntroll, …And Oceans and Dispyt. “Inherit the Morning Sun,” his second solo single under his own name, pushes further into unfamiliar ground, sharpening a highly personal style of industrial electro rooted in doom and black metal.

“I connected a Moog I’d just bought to the pedalboard I use for my doomy guitars”, explains Mathias. “It completely changed the vibe, and the main theme of this track was born.”

The track sat unfinished for years, until Stormbound’s Marco Luponero asked Mathias to dig through old material for new songs. “The track has quite an electronic foundation to it, but it became clear that it would still benefit greatly from having a real drummer playing on it”. Mathias called the most fitting drummer he could think of for this sort of groove, Toni Nordlund of Organ!k.

“I’ve been a huge fan of The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and Aphex Twin since my early teens. I told Toni about my vision of going back to the 90s a bit, and he absolutely nailed it. Suddenly the whole thing had a completely different energy.”

Lyrically, Mathias reveals that the song is about transformation through acceptance – finding the pulse beneath the distortion, and becoming part of it.

“Inherit the Morning Sun” follows lead single “In Glorious Black and White” and builds toward Lillmåns’ debut album, due early 2027.
