Luponero

Luponero continue their rise with new lineup and single: ”The kind of song you’d Shazam in a cab at night.”

”What Do You Want From Me?" is the first co-release between Finnish Stormbound Records and Swedish Icons Creating Evil Art.

Helsinki-based alternative rock act Luponero are back with a new lineup, a new label partnership and a single filled with post-rock grooves and retro-futuristic synth aesthetics.

“Imagine you’re in the back seat of a cab at the end of a long night out,” founder and frontman Marco Luponero replies, when asked to describe the new song. “While the street lights slide by in the dark, a haunting melody comes through the speaker. You reach for your phone, you’ve got to Shazam it. You don’t know it, you’ve never heard it. But something in it feels like a memory you can’t place.”

After his near-death experience in 2021, caused by a pulmonary embolism, the Finnish-Italian rocker, whose track record includes fronting bands such as Terrorwheel and Altaria, came back swinging. The band that goes by his surname saw their 2024 debut single ”DAD BOD ROK GOD” become something of a summer hit. That was followed by last year’s critically-acclaimed eponymous full-length debut album. After an eight-country European tour as a power trio, Luponero eventually reshaped into its new form – a two-piece, consisting of Marco on bass and vocals and Daniel Strang on keyboards, drum machines and backing vocals. Strang is also the producer behind Luponero’s previous releases.

“So many bands sound polished to the point of personality bypass,“ says Marco. “When every amp is replaced with the same digital emulators there’s a risk something truly valuable gets lost. So we figured if we’re stripping the stage down anyway, let’s commit to it. Let’s find something genuinely personal in the machines instead.”

The first co-release between Finnish label Stormbound Records and Swedish boutique label Icons Creating Evil Art, “What Do You Want From Me?” is available 22.4 on all streaming channels. The song is also accompanied by an official music video.
